Put down the spay can, Michelle
We are standing at her apartment building, and she is punching in the secret code to let us in. It's 2-2. Don't tell.
Opening her apt door
A moment of excitement builds as we prepare to enter the flat.
This makes it official
Michelle's name on the door, and the postal box, is misspelled. No wonder she never got my card.
Enjoying lunch in her apt
We had purchased a couple of sandwiches at the local deli.
Michelle shows us Lyon
Lyon is a financial and business center
The church and school next door to her apt
She lives in a posh section of Lyon, but this is not the school at which she teaches. The school is in a little suburb. She wanted to room in the city to be near the action.
Let's go see the parc
Gate
Those Frenchies love their parc gates.
Michelle's lovely parc
She says she keeps fit by taking frequent walks through this tremendously large parc. It has places she hasn't even visited yet.
Fun couple
Yes, that's ice in the pond
Winter scene
The train
This is not actually the TGV
Phyllis says: You want us to go where?
We were supposed to be able to take a Funicular, or rising train, up this very steep hill to see this landmark. The train was broken, so we walked. As it turns out, we were up to the task, and climbed those steps.
The Basilica
Once again, please forgive the blurry nature of the photo. This is more for our benefit to remember our visit.
Artistic photo
Just think of this as "soft focus"
Impressive, oui?
View of Lyon from the steps
It was quite marvelous, and not much colder at night than in the day.
Basilica lit up at night
As we retreated down those steps, we had some places on the path that were in darkness except for the lights from the tower above, and the city below. I think they forgot to put path lights on.
On the local train
Once, we had a Karaoke singer who passed the hat when he was done. John gave him half-a-Euro. Well, it was music!
I forgot to ask Michelle to ride the wheel
This scene is familiar
It has a Hollywood feel to it, doesn't it? We ate at the Salmon Shop - it was delicious (well, John's was anyway).
Michelle's bridge over the Rhone
Michelle called this her bridge; she crossed it regularly.
Lafayette bridge
According to Michelle, this is a very important bridge in Lyon
Call to worship
The bells of the church rang furiously from 9:45 to 10:00 a.m. to call Lyonites to worship.
Michelle's church
Happily, we were able to attend Mass again on our second Sunday, and you can see it was in a more modern church. The place was packed when Mass began. There was a lot more parishoner involvement in this Mass than in the previous one.
Sans Souci
We told Michelle of the bookstore that was in the heart of downtown Lafayette, Sans Souci, for years before the big chains caused it to close.
The Lumiere freres Musee
We enjoyed the museum of the Lumiere brothers, pioneers in the field of motion picture development.
